Sean’s Progressive Agenda for New York
Equal Pay for Women
The gender wage gap puts many families at a disadvantage in our entire economy suffers. While the wage gap has been narrowing since the 1970s, women still earn just 79 cents for every dollar men make, and that wage gap is even larger for African-American and Hispanic women. That’s why Sean worked hard to pass a law to help ensure equal pay for women in New York State. But there is more work to do, and Sean will keep fighting for equal pay for equal work because it’s the right thing to do.
Expanding Protections for LGBT New Yorkers
While our country has made great progress in recent years, Sean knows that ensuring equality for all LGBT New Yorkers is an ongoing fight. Sean has been a leader in the effort to pass a ban on anti-gay conversion therapy, and a law to prevent discrimination against New Yorkers based on their sexual identity. Sean was very encouraged to see the Governor use his executive authority to amend our state human rights law to protect all LGBT New Yorkers from discrimination in housing, public accommodations, and employment.
Ending the Epidemic of Gun Violence
Gun violence touches every community in New York State and Sean is proud that New York has led the way in fighting for common sense reforms like expanding background checks for gun sales. Sean has voted to pass legislation to increase penalties to help prevent straw purchases, and create a penalty of life in prison for murdering police officers. Sean also helped to pass a law to protect women from armed domestic abusers.
